The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is the seventeenth game in the Legend of Zelda series and the first to be developed for, and released exclusively on, the Nintendo 3DS. It is an indirect sequel to the 1991 SNES game A Link to the Past and is set in the same Hyrule.

[edit] Gameplay

[edit] Overview

The game features a new concept of exploration, where Link can transform himself in to a two-dimensional being that resembles a chalk drawing, enabling him to traverse walls and other flat surfaces, as well as avoid enemy contact. This new feature takes advantage of the 3DS's unique capabilities, adding more than one new dimension to gameplay, and allowing for the exploration of previously static environments, such as walls and mountain sides. When in 2D form, he is also able to use windows and other crevasses as passageways, allowing for further exploration.

[edit] Items & Renting

Link can buy or rent equipment from Ravio's Shop, which is run by a mysterious character of the same name. Renting an item is substantially cheaper than buying, but it comes at a price. Should the green-clad hero fall in battle, all of his rented belongings will be deducted, and he will need to pay another rental fee to re-obtain them. Bought items will not be lost if Link ever falls, and they can also be upgraded to "Nice" items, which have stronger effects.

[edit] Non-Linearity

Unlike previous Zelda games, almost all of Link's arsenal is accessible at Ravio's Shop near the beginning of the game, which, as a result, makes for a very non-linear experience. Link can go to whichever dungeon he likes, and in any order. This changes up the usual Legend of Zelda formula and keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting, while still retaining the Zelda charm.
