Piece of Heart

In Zelda, hearts are a unit of life energy. Whenever you are hit, your life energy will be drained, and a section of your heart meter will disappear. The more hearts you have, the more damage you can take before dying. The best way to dramatically increase the total size of your heart meter is to collect Pieces of Heart. Once you collect four or five of these, a new heart will be added to your meter. Individual Heart Pieces also restore your health when they are acquired. They are normally found in treasure chests in Dungeons or caves, or given out when certain conditions are met.
