Navi in Ocarina of Time

Navi is Link's fairy in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. She is summoned by the Great Deku Tree to accompany Link on his quest. At the end of the game, when Link returns to his original time, Navi leaves Link for unspecified reasons. She is last seen flying into a window behind the Pedestal of Time.

It is thought that in the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the "friend with whom he parted ways when he finally fulfilled his heroic destiny" is Navi. The 'fairy-flying' sound is also played after the text.

In the game, her purpose is a functioning target, her position indicating what enemy will be locked on if you press the Z-trigger. She glows yellow to indicate when she is targeting an enemy, and green when she is targeting something of interest.

To most players, her phrases 'Hey!' and 'Listen' were so annoying, in Majora's Mask the makers made Navi's equivilent, Tatl, only make a ting sound! This grealty improved how well players liked Majora's Mask.
