Items of The Legend of Zelda

Many useful items can be found throughout The Legend of Zelda. Here you will find a description of each item and their locations:

[edit] Blue Candle

How to get: Bought from various merchants.
What it does: Lights up a dark room that Link is in with a flame for a short period of time. The Blue Candle can be used only once per screen so if you exit the room when it goes out and come back, you can use it again. Don't walk into the flame, it hurts.

How to get: Bought from the Old Woman.
What it does: Restores all of your health. Once used, this item will return to the Old Woman's letter and it is only available to buy after you have completed the letter quest given by her.

How to get: Bought from the secret shop.
What it does: While wearing this, Link will only take half damage from an attack. Turns Link's tunic, map icon and raft ropes blue.

How to get: Dropped by enemies.
What it does: Temporarily stuns enemies, allowing you to attack them. You will never actually "have" this item but rather, it's something that you can use just by touching it and it will go to work immediately on the screen. Link will flash different colors and the effect only lasts while in that screen.

How to get: Dungeon item.
What it does: Shows you where you are in the dungeon map.

How to get: Dropped by enemies, found in certain ponds.
What it does: Restores a good amount of health. There are some areas with Fairy Fountains and the Fairies within will restore all of your health.

[edit] Heart Container

How to get: Dropped by bosses once defeated and five are hidden around Hyrule.
What it does: Increases your hearts by one, making you able to take more damage before dying.

How to get: Dungeon item and bought from various merchants.
What it does: Opens locked doors in dungeons. Once you have the Magic Key, you won't need to use these.

How to get: Dungeon item.
What it does: Using this item with the Magic Wand causes fire to shoot out when a spell is casted and it makes contact with something.

How to get: Dungeon item (Eighth)
What it does: A key that works an unlimited amount of times.

How to get: Dungeon item.
What it does: Shows you every room in the dungeon and how to get to them. Also shows rooms that may need to be entered via a bomb explosion. Notice how every dungeon is shaped like something...

How to get: Bought from a secret shop.
What it does: If you see a Goriya, lay this in front of it and it will run away. Also distracts enemies but really, who cares. You can kill them faster without distracting them anyway. Mmm, a slab of delicious meat...

[edit] Old Woman's Letter

How to get: You can get this from the Old Man in different locations throughout the game.
What it does: Show this to the Old Woman in the caves and she will start selling Red and Blue potions. The Old Woman will tell you where to get the Magical Sword, the only hint in the game that doesn't come from the Old Man.

[edit] Piece of the Triforce of Wisdom

How to get: Found in every dungeon besides the Ninth.
What it does: Collect all eight of these to form the Triforce of Wisdom so that you can defeat Ganon and rescue Zelda!

How to get: After defeating Manhandla in Dungeon 3, go down the stairs to obtain the raft.
What it does: By towards water on green docks, the raft will automatically appear and carry you to an adjacent green dock. The raft is required to reach Dungeon #4 in Quest #1 and to get certain upgrades, such as heart pieces.

[edit] Recovery Heart

How to get: Bought from various merchants and dropped by enemies.
What it does: Restores one heart of health that Link has lost. Please don't buy these from merchants, they can be easily obtained by killing even the most common of enemies.

How to get: Dungeon item.
What it does: Lights up a dark room that Link is in with a flame for a short period of time. This candle can be used as many times as you like on a screen. The flames will still hurt you if walked into.

How to get: Bought from the Old Woman.
What it does: Awesome, in all essence of the word. This potion will recover all of Link's health and then turn into a Blue Potion, allowing you to use it again as that. A little bit of a role-reversal, in most Zelda games it's the Blue potion that trumps the Red in terms of how useful it is.

How to get: Obtained in the Final Dungeon.
What it does: While wearing this, Link will only take one-fourth the damage from an attack. Turns Link's tunic, map icon and raft ropes red.

How to get: Dropped by enemies.
What it does: The currency used in Hyrule, you'll need these to purchase various items and weapons. You can gamble for Rupees but it's not worth it, you'll come out a very poor Link.

How to get: Dungeon item.
What it does: When Link comes across a gap, this is used to get him over it (not sure how that works, they should have given it a bridge-related name) A one-time use only item.

How to get: Defeating Ganon.
What it does: This is a storyline item only and thus, has no use. This piece is the one at the top of the Triforce.

[edit] Triforce of Wisdom

How to get: Collecting all eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom will form the complete piece.
What it does: This will let you enter Spectacle Rock and fight Ganon. This is Zelda's Triforce piece.
